Every Heartbeat and Breath is One Closer to the Last
I know this is a topic no one wants to talk about, but unfortunately it is something all of us will have in common. One day we will take our last breath and are heart will have its last beat.
What should matter in life is the time in the in-between stages, one of my favorite poems "The Dash" displays the true meaning of life. What the dash represents is your life and what impact it had while you were here on earth.
This year has been a difficult one watching so many others going thru horrific illnesses, and having to say goodbye to others. This year has reminded me to continue to live because none of us know when our end is.
Today on Facebook I saw a posting that went something like this -
"You have never really lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you."
So I challenge you - can you do something of that magnitude - do you feel you already have?
I know I have a lot of catching up to do to make my dash one I would be proud of - how about you.

Living On The Edge
This morning on my commute from Frederick MD to Washington DC, I began to have memories flash thru my mind. One memory in particular is the basis of today’s posting. My two cousins Lori and Lydia Anne and I were in the Dominican Republic on vacation. We had opted to take an excursion to the country side and later would go boogie boarding. Obviously we were not the only people on this excursion; most of the people were unmentionable - except one couple, an over bearing German man with a very meek wife. At every stop as the guide told us history or a story the German man always had something to disagree with. Our final stop - Boogie Boarding... so the guide told everyone if you are going to Boogie Board - take the board with you.
So off the monster truck emptied and there I was smoking my cigarette and the German couple was the only ones left. I tossed my cigarette and told the couple - don't forget to grab your boogie board. Mr. No Personality turns to me and proceeds to explain that he and his wife do not partake in dangerous activities, that Winston Churchill once said (paraphrasing) one should never engage in a sport that could endanger their life. I turned and Smiled and said to the lovely couple - well do you know what I say. Reluctantly he said "what" and I responded "If you are not living on the edge you are taking up to much space". I grabbed my board and off and running I went. Of course the story does not end there. Here I am out in the ocean capturing the great waves and as I come in to shore I get rolled over and over again. Trying to get my balance and get up I am tossed several more times only to hit the back of my head against the ocean floor. Finally I get my feet beneath me and go to stand and yes you guessed it.... standing there before me is Mr. No Personality. So I jumped up - yelled Woo Who! and ran back to the ocean, meanwhile in my mind I am thinking oh shit that hurt.
My point for today’s story is to remind you - there are so many little adventures that you are missing by standing on the beach - you need to thru yourself into life and ride the wave - get tossed around and enjoy the ride, your feet while be there when it is time to put you straight again.
From fire walking to the craps table - I love living on the edge!
What experiences have you had that you consider living on the edge?

September - The time to buy swimsuits!
So now that we have officially moved past Labor Day. It is time to purchase the MUST have bathing suit for next summer. Why would I spend $80 in April for a bathing suit that I can pay $15 for come September?
If you are a person that the size changes rapidly - you can do like I do and buy a bathing suit in one size and another bathing suit in another size. I get 2-3 new swimsuits each season. If you add them to the ones I already have - then I have plenty for the season.
In these economic times we need to save money where we can and this is one area that most of us will not buy used bathing suits at the local Thrift Store. So get yourself a new one for next year.
Have fun shopping!

Being Direct
Last night in a conversation with an old friend, I made a statement about my old dog. One most people would think, but would not say out loud. Well most people that is... not me. I am known for saying what I think. Things to me are black or white. I am in or out. I don't play in the gray and there is no middle line to walk. I make a decision and I am off and running.
So you can imagine my surprise when my friend said "wow, I can't believe you just said that, it is so refreshing to hear what is really on someone's mind". You can imagine my surprise when I realized so many people are saying one thing but thinking another. My question is why? Why are people self denying how they feel, what they think or more importantly their ability to show the independent self and their own thought process?
I am known by most as being "blunt, direct, to the point", honestly I don't understand why more of us are not, not only would it save time but miscommunication.
Miscommunication - umm there is a thought and a byproduct of someone NOT wanting to hurt another person's feelings. Of course all of us have had hurt feelings, but really why? We wanted something the other was not willing to give. Is that our fault or their fault?
I like to think if everyone was to the point, not mean and malicious, but speaks from the heart without the flower spray on the shit. Then society could move on at a pace that we no longer need to build up a wall to protect ourselves but instead are able to self discovery through truth and wisdom.
What can being truthful hurt?

Welcome Everyone!
This is Shelley's view an exciting new twist on the backwardness of life.
Upcoming Articles will be unique and fun reads. You tell me what topics you would like to discuss and we will make it happen!
You know the olde' adage "life is too short" well in all honesty - it is too short. So in order to make the most of life we need to start a Revolution.
This Revolution needs to be about making life's important things first and screw the rest of it!
We can toss all the negative baggage into the fire pit.
Yep! Let's live on the roller coaster of life where we circle each bend with an eye of excitement and our hands to the sky! Life should amount to Woo Hoo!
Who's with me?
